description westwood professional services, inc. is seeking a substation engineering intern, protection and controls, to join our team. this position will be a part of our renewables division. westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. this internship is for summer 2027. requirements required experience: • actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized accredited program • demonstrates willingness to accept new challenges and learn specialized field • growing knowledge of profession as demonstrated by involvement in related professional organizations and professional development programs • basic knowledge of the firm’s policies, practices and procedures • basic knowledge of software required for position • good organizational skills • able to follow general directions and work with limited independence on basic computations duties and responsibilities: as an intern at westwood, you will work alongside experienced professionals to learn about and help with the following tasks involved in a typical renewable substation project. development of all project drawings one-lines three-lines ac/dc schematics relay panel elevation and bom control enclosure layout and bom equipment and relay panel wiring diagrams communication schematics and connection details development of studies / calculations station service ac load calculations and transformer sizing station battery / charger dc load calculations and sizing ct saturation studies voltage drop / cable sizing assist with development of major equipment specifications review p&c deliverables completed by others review equipment vendor submittals for conformance with specs and project requirements cross discipline checks with other substation / service leads attend internal and external project meetings as needed assist project engineer with procurement and construction support tasks
